The roots of Scott's Family Barbecue Sauce go back to 1917 when Adam Scott first got into the barbecue business in Goldsboro, North Carolina. The recipe for the sugar free, fat free sauce was developed over a three-year period and remains a secret which is passed down through the Scott family. Adam, a local minister, said the exact ingredients in the sauce were revealed to him in a dream. That original sauce recipe was served on Scott's barbecue for nearly 30 years, until Adam Scott's son, A. Martel Scott, Sr., spiced up the sugar free mixture a bit before obtaining a trademark in 1946. | | | Features: | |

Best BBQ SauceSep 28, 2010
By JaymesLFC This is genuine North Carolina type BBQ sauce. Vinegar based with spices. None of that thick tomato paste. If you like your sauce to overpower your meat so you only taste tomaoes this is not for you. I'm from NC and this is the kind of sauce I grew up on. It enhances the flavor of the meat and you can make it as hot and spicy as you like. I've been using this sauce for over 25 years.

Adam Scott's Dream Sauce. Carolina Style Barbecue.Feb 02, 2011
By Coldsteel7 Compared to barbecue in the rest of the United States, Carolina-style barbecue is a whole different animal. Literally. While most people think of beef dripping a thick, sticky sauce, Carolina Barbecue is shredded, pulled or chopped pork in a spicy vinegar sauce. You can make the delicious Southern staple at home with a bottle of Scott's Barbecue Sauce.
Scott's Barbecue Sauce is based in Goldsboro, North Carolina. The vinegar-based sauce packs a lot of punch for something that looks so thin. The punch is in the secret blend of spices that add a bit of hit and lots of flavor to your slow-cooked pork. Don't be surprised if the herbs and spices have settled to the bottom inch of the bottle, just shake it up and you're ready to go.
Baste your pig in this vinegary sauce while it cooks. This can be done in the oven or on the grill with a shoulder or butt. Basting will give you the maximum infusion of flavor. You can also add the sauce to the mixture after it has cooked (which many people do in addition to the basting). The result is a slightly tangy, mildly hot, delicious melt-in-your-mouth pork experience that you have to taste to fully appreciate.
The standard bottle size for Scott's Barbecue Sauce is 16 ounces. The sauce does not contain any sugar or fat. The ingredients are secret, so the bottle gives the minimal required list of ingredients as vinegar, salt, pepper and spices. My title alludes to the origins of the sauce, which founder Adam Scott claims was given to him in a dream. With this recipe, he began making the sauce back in 1917.
If you like good Carolina Barbecue (Eastern style), you are certain to enjoy Scott's Barbecue Sauce. Five finger-licking stars.

Good for Pulled PorkJul 03, 2010
By seashell824 A friend of ours is from North Carolina and brings this sauce back every time she goes home. We use it for our pulled pork. Until Scott's it was missing that "umph." This was it. Now that we can get it from Amazon means that we don't have to wait once a year every time our friend goes home. It may not be thick, but it has a kick. Besides sometimes you just don't want sauce dripping all over everything.

For one thing and one thing only!Apr 30, 2005
By Ghenghis In the Carolinas, people have all sorts of ideas about how to cook up and serve bar-b-que...mostly bad. If you like vinegar soaked cat food, come to North Carolina and we'll hook you up.
However, this runny red mildly-hot vinegar-based concoction by Scott's makes about the best marinade for ribs you'll find anywhere, that is if you don't have a bottle of Chiavetta's laying around somewhere. Just soak your ribs in this juicy juice for about 3-4 hours before you throw them on the grill, baste with your favorite brand of bar-b-que sauce and voo-ah-lah! Makes a great marinade for chicken too. 5 Bones
